Most of a decommissioning project is planning, de-racking, data destruction, and asset disposition. None of that is freight — right up until the hardware has to leave the building. Then it’s all freight: high-value, ESD-sensitive, usually on a hard date because the lease ends or the floor has to clear. That last mile is where decommissioning projects slip, and it’s the only part we do.

We are the freight layer of a decommissioning project. We move the gear out, intact and documented. We are not an ITAD firm and we do not wipe or destroy data — your destruction or disposition partner does that, and we maintain documented custody all the way to their facility, your redeployment site, resale buyer, or storage.

Server decommissioning: getting the gear off the floor safely
De-racked equipment is at its most exposed — out of the cabinet, off the cabling, staged in a hallway at 11pm while the team finishes the last node. ESD damage, drops, and custody gaps happen in that window. Our protocols align to ANSI/ESD S20.20: grounded handling, ESD-rated packaging for boards and GPUs, trained crews who don’t improvise. Every transfer photographed; custody logged at four points; no hour the equipment is unaccounted for. If a rack is too sensitive to ride freight, it moves hand carry, floor to floor.
How a data center decommissioning move works

- Packaging plan — ESD-rated materials per asset type; GPU trays handled differently than racked units.
- Pickup — sealed, GPS-tracked truck; custody log opens with photos.
- Line haul — tracked end to end; one dispatcher owns your move.
- Handoff — dock-to-rack, or clean custody transfer to your ITAD/destruction partner, record closed and shared.
Where freight fits among data center decommissioning companies
Most data center decommissioning companies are ITAD or asset-disposition specialists — they de-rack, wipe, destroy, resell. Few own the transport, and the ones that do usually hand it to a broker on move day.
