AB&M Logistics built and operates the dedicated server logistics program for one of the world’s largest hyperscale data center buildouts: ESD-compliant transport aligned with ANSI/ESD S20.20, documented chain of custody at four control points from origin dock to rack-level signoff, and a sustained pace of multiple truckloads per week across multiple active sites. The Assignment

A hyperscale buildout is not a freight event — it is a freight program. Where a typical data center relocation is measured in days, a hyperscale buildout is continuous, measured in months and years: multiple truckloads per week of servers, GPU clusters, networking hardware, and rack-scale equipment moving into active construction and commissioning sites, on a build-and-deploy cadence the project management office has to be able to plan against.

The client — one of the world’s largest hyperscale operators — needed a logistics partner that could hold that pace without ever compromising the two things that make server freight different from general freight: electrostatic discharge and custody. Latent ESD damage is the primary risk in server transport — a board that takes an uncontrolled static hit can pass commissioning and fail months later, with no visible cause. And a trailer of GPU hardware is one of the highest-value, most fraud-targeted loads on the road.

There was no off-the-shelf program that met the requirement. So we built one.

What We Built: The SOP

1. The ESD Handling Standard

Every touch runs under a protocol aligned with ANSI/ESD S20.20 — the ESD program-management standard used by hyperscale operators, OEMs, and government facilities: ESD-rated packaging at the box level, ESD-trained personnel, no handling on non-ESD-safe surfaces, and documentation at every touch. The protocol applies identically to a single-server hand-carry move and to full rack staging.

2. Chain of Custody at Four Control Points

Origin verification (counts, serial scan where required, seal placement, photographed load condition) → in-transit tracking (GPS minimum; geofence alerts, sealed-trailer protocol, and dual-driver teams on high-value runs) → documented custody handoffs (with direct end-to-end runs as the default, so most loads never change hands) → destination receiving with rack-level signoff, not dock-level. 3. Carrier Discipline

We do not put unfamiliar drivers on hyperscale loads. Every carrier is personally vetted and DOT-verified, dispatched directly — never posted to a public load board — with identity verification at booking and at pickup. The same crews run the same lanes, week after week. This is the discipline behind AB&M’s zero cargo theft and fraud record.

4. Program Cadence

The program is contracted at program-level rates against a sustained pace — multiple truckloads per week into multiple active sites — scheduled against the PMO’s build-and-deploy cadence. Emergency server repositioning rides on top of the scheduled flow: failed-equipment swaps and live-environment replacements dispatch in 30–60 minutes, 24/7/365.

What Came Out of It

The program operates today, at pace. And the standard it forced us to build did not stay inside one contract: the ESD-compliant protocol developed for this buildout is now the operating standard on every AB&M server, GPU, and networking shipment — hyperscale or single-box, relocation or decommissioning, ground expedite or hand carry.

Company-wide, that discipline shows up in the numbers: zero cargo theft or fraud incidents in nearly three decades of operation, and 98.3% on-time performance across 11,000+ expedited shipments per year.
